Traditional motorhomes are still popular. RVs, diesel pushers and travel trailers are being used by millions of people across the country. But there’s a new RV in town called the Park Model that is becoming a big seller. As summer approaches, campgrounds are stocking up with Park Models to make their campgrounds feel more like home to a new breed of traveler.
Based on their appearance, one may think our 16th President may live in a Park Model RV as it is they very much resemble a log cabin. These delightful, cabin-like RV’s measure up very well to traditional RVs in size and include many of the same amenities including a kitchen, bedroom and sitting area. The Park Model option allow individuals not wishing to camp in a tent but sans an RV to enjoy the appeal of a community campground.
Because campgrounds wanting to attract a wider range of campers are introducing house-like RVs to their camping areas, the demand for Park Models has increased considerably but many RV manufacturers are answering the call. Manufacturers like Damon Corp, Cavco, CrossRoads RV and Forest River have all increased production on Park Model RV’s. Campers wishing to experience a Park Model RV can find them at many camping areas including KOA and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts.
The Barn Yard, an Amish influenced company out of Pennsylvania proudly handcrafts 6 different versions of Park Model RV’s. The 6 versions include log, vinyl, lap siding and more. Depending on the model, these RV’s range from $20,000 to $60,000.
Once delivered and attached to water and electricity, the Park Model is fully operational. And with the advancement of “Green” technology many campgrounds, like the Sacred Rocks Reserve and RV Park are going solar with their models. Reported energy savings range from 25-75%!
Other manufacturers try to fill more than one niche and offer the ability to pass on savings and high quality products to folks on both sides of the market. Forest River is one such company and continues to build a high volume of park models as well as more traditional motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. Although park models are becoming more popular, consumers on the go may want to stick with a true recreational vehicle. Fully contained, RVs offer all the amenities with the advantage of being easily transportable – taking the family to new and exciting destinations and exploring the countryside while keeping all the comforts of home. The new stationary models or RVs are great but don’t offer the freedom and flexibility of a standard RV.
With a very real concern for the environment as well as an interest in attracting a younger traveling crowd, RV manufacturers are making their RV’s more affordable as well as more “Green.” These Green features include lightweight towables, solar powered charging systems and overall increased fuel efficiency.
These days many of the parks and campgrounds that have been around for decades are choosing to modernize their amenities and options. Across the country, it is not uncommon to find campgrounds with fitness centers, swimming pools, hot tubs, dog walks, bocce ball, horseshoe pits, catch and release fishing and more! Plus many feature restaurants, service departments, reception halls, courtyards for parties and more!
